The implications from dropping out of high school are enormous, including
a higher risk of poverty and even an abbreviated life span…It is
estimated that about 2,500 students drop out of U.S. high schools every
day.” (ABC News, November of 2006)
Why a high school diploma is important:
High school dropouts have a life span that is nine years shorter than people who graduate.
Dropouts are more likely to face poverty, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Typically high school dropouts earn $19,000 a year. High school graduates earn $28,000 a year on average.
“Pay more attention to educating boys.
Boys are much more likely than girls to fall behind in school, be
labeled for special education, to commit a crime, to end up in jail,
drop out of high school, and less likely to go to college. Boys perform
better in groups.” Laura Bush (wife of President George W. Bush)
