We connects kids with their future through residential, foster care, and drug and alcohol programs providing hope, direction and therapeutic intervention for emotionally and behaviorally impaired youth.
For over 30 years, the nonprofit Excelsior Youth Center has provided education, behavioral health and primary medical services to youth and their families in Spokane. The Center has both inpatient and outpatient programs for kids with drug problems and behavioral health issues.
Excelsior serves a diverse group of adolescents and their families with a range of presenting difficulties which compromise their abilities to live happy, healthy lives. The one thread linking the young people is trauma and loss.
We believe that everyone has the potential to be safer, stronger, and more satisfied in the lives they lead. To that end, we provide care and respect to our clients as they seek to connect to their futures.
Excelsior Youth Center is the only treatment center in the State to have its own accredited middle and high school education programs in conjunction with Spokane Public Schools. There are two psychiatric nurse practitioners on site. A key to their success is the energy and commitment from their staff, along with their mission of connecting kids to their futures.
This 55,000 sq.ft. center sits on a 34-acre site that includes an arboretum, outdoor courtyards, sports fields, gardens, recreation courts, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and hiking trails. Each year they admit an average of about 430 young people. Length of stay varies according to program, with the average length of stay being about 121 days for residential units, and 180 days for outpatient services. Families that have an ability to pay for services do so on a sliding scale.
