Purpose:
The Crisis Shelter for Women and Children exists to provide safe, healthy, short-term refuge to women and children in crisis.

As part of the Continuum of Care, the Shelter meets the basic needs - food, clothing, shelter, medical care - of women and children coming off the streets and connects them to the resources necessary to help them turn their lives in a new direction and become contributing members of society.

New Location:  Due to an increasing number of homeless women and children and a desire not to turn anyone away due to lack of space, the old Crisis Shelter was bursting at the seams. The Shelter guests now reside at the new facility at 1515 East Illinois Avenue.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Donations.  Some of our greatest needs are
  • Towels, hand towels, washcloths (new or like new)
  • Hygiene - deodorant, feminine products
  • Socks
  • Underwear of all sizes
  • Bedding (sheets, quilts, blankets)
  • Bus passes
We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities:
  • Child care
  • Kitchen help
  • Case management
  • Health professionals
We have several ways for volunteers to get involved.  To find out more about volunteer positions and how to get started, visit https://www.uniongospelmission.org/volunteer/
