Global Neighborhood is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides former refugees with opportunities for holistic development. Our values are Empowerment, Relationship, and the Love of Jesus.
Global Neighborhood acts out its mission by matching American interns to former refugee families and individuals for 9 months. These volunteers assist refugees in learning English, practicing driving, and, in turn, help establish meaningful, long-term relationships with them. Global Neighborhood is working with refugees from countries all over the world, including: Bhutan, Iraq, Burma, Sudan, Burundi, Rwanda, Eritrea, and more!
Refugees who arrive in Spokane face unparalleled challenges in every arena of life. While many refugees become self-sufficient quickly, the assimilation and acculturation process of refugees is long-term, and many of these families have questions or want relationships with Americans far past their initial resettlement period. Global Neighborhood works to provide holistic care for former refugees through relationships for as long as it takes for them to become fully sustained.
