Geiger Corrections Facility
(509) 299-2337

Contact: Bill McDonell

Purpose:

  • Geiger houses both Spokane County and Federal inmates (men and women).
  • Geiger also serves as the overflow jail.   Geiger employs a staff of about 80; however, it does not have enough correction officers to accept more inmates. Exceeding the maximum capacity may endanger both staff and inmates.  Inmates like to come here so they can leave the confined jail cells and spend more time outside.

Programs:
  • FIDO (Federal Inmate Dog Opportunities) is a program where inmates train and care for homeless animals which were passed over for adoption and likely would have been euthanized in local animal shelters.  The dogs become more adoptable, and the inmates learn skills and enjoy the companionship of the dogs.  These dogs are put up for adoption on http://www.petfinder.com.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Teach job skills to inmates.
  • Mentor an inmate, to help him/her adjust to changes in society and reunite with their families.
