Purpose:
Local churches host homeless families overnight, providing shelter, meals and support services.

Our Mission:

One child - one family at a time with our community of faith, we strive to make a difference in their lives through providing shelter, support and the means to sustain their independence.

We keep the family unit together as youth are allowed in the program. We have a home-like Day Center where families can do daily activities from a central location. We offer shelter for up to 4 families with children at a time. We have no age limit on children that we serve.

The children in the family are in a safe and stable environment at Family Promise, which brings structure into their family dynamics.  The parents do not have to worry about where they are going to find the next meal for their children or where they will stay each evening.

Our families receive encouraging words and affirmation, share laughter with others, and find caring and concerned people who brighten their day.  Through a new understanding on the part of the volunteers and the homeless families, comes the possibility of promoting change that is needed for the elimination of homelessness.

Families are offered Case Management, life skills classes, job skills training, obtaining their GED, food stamps, day care vouchers, housing leads, and other referrals from the staff and volunteers.  Together as a network, we are building community and strengthening lives.

Statistics:
  • Approximately 3.5 million people experience homelessness over the course of a given year, and 1.35 million of them are children.

  • Families with children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population, now accounting for up to 40%.

  • One out of 4 homeless persons is a child.
