Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council
To promote the health, safety and well-being of our community with an emphasis on youth. To reduce substance abuse among youth, and in turn, adults in Spokane County.
GSSAC's Prevention Center is home to several programs working towards the prevention of substance abuse and impaired driving. These efforts include programs that strive to give youth and adults the desire, knowledge and skills to make positive choices.
In February of 1983, the Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council was established as an independent certified 501(C)3 with state registered Articles of Incorporation and a 15 member Policy Board of Directors to coordinate efforts at modifying the local problems with drug and alcohol use. From this date forward, prevention activities have been created and folded into GSSAC to form the GSSAC Prevention Center. At the current time GSSAC has developed a strategic plan around the risk and protective factor model 'Communities That Care,' to link services and resources to address substance abuse issues in Spokane County.
