Family Traditions

Family Traditions can create

                   greater closeness,
            opportunities to teach and
build a foundation for future growth.

  • Family traditions do not have to be big events.  They can be small moments in time, little rituals to strengthen or create emotional bonds.

What You Can Do
  • Decide as a family what traditions you may already have which you want to change.  In blended families, choose both previous traditions as well as unique new ones
  • Build memorable traditions by doing things together as a family when possible, such as:
birthday celebrations
reading
music
vacations
holidays, holiday meals and holiday treats
trips
placing flowers on family graves
service to others
picnics
exercise
prayer
scripture reading
teach children to sew
teach children to cook
gardening
family reunions
recitals
school events
special food/meals
popcorn and movies on Friday night
  • Eat uninterrupted meals together as a family.  At dinner, each family member relates their happiest, saddest, and most meaningful events of the day.

  • Help children cultivate positive attitudes.  As you tuck your children into bed each night, ask them what was the best thing that happened to them that day.
