Babysitting by Youth

Babysitting can be really fun for youth,

as well as a great way to earn money or offer service.

What You Can Do
  • Babysitting Kits.  Make a babysitting survival kit to entertain the children you tend with something new to learn and play with.  Gather supplies which will entertain the kids like simple crafts, games, toys, and coloring books.  Do these activities with the children.  The kids will love spending time with you.
  • Baby Sitting Classes.  Encourage girls and boys ages 10 to 15 to attend one of the local Babysitting Basics classes.  The workshops cover many child-care topics, such as infant and toddler care, infant feeding including baby bottles and formula, changing diapers, safety and first aid, and activity ideas.
  • Volunteer to help care for children in your neighborhood or through an organization.  Conduct playtime and recreational activities.  Help children with arts and crafts projects.
  • To be a good babysitter:
    • Keeping children safe is most important!
    • Donít talk to your friends on the phone
    • Donít watch TV and ignore the kids
    • Donít do your homework until after the kids are in bed
    • Donít be a snoop!
